Effect of Palmul-tang on Lactate Tolerance and Recovery Rate in the Human Body

Abstract
Objective : To investigate the effect of Palmul-tang on Lactate Tolerance and Recovery Rate in the human body
Methods : We picked up sixteen athletes who live in a training camp where they are equal in diet and condition of life. As separated them into two groups. One group was medicated Palmul-tang, and the other group was medicated Pogostemonis herba as placebo. Maximal oxygen consumption in steady increasing maximal exercise, anaerobic threshold to the threshold of lactate, lactate tolerance and recovery rate were analyzed as contrasted with before and after medication.
Results : In Palmul-tang medicated group, maximal oxygen consumption, ventilation, heart rate with the maximal exercise were not much different than in Pogostemonis herba. Time to all-out with the maximal exercise was significantly longer than in it. Oxygen consumption and ventilation to the threshold of lactate were significantly larger than in it. The threshold level of lactate stood by rate of maximal oxygen consumption were much larger than in it. The exercise strength to the threshold level of lactate was significantly larger than in it. The blood concentration of lactate at the rest time and immediately after exercise were not much different than in it, but it was significantly less at the recovery time for fifteen minutes after exercise. The recovery rate of lactate at the recovery time for fifteen minutes was significantly larger than in it.
Conclusions : According to the above results, it is considered that Palmul-tang has treatment effects on the recovery of fatigue after exercise, and then on the recovery of general fatigue.
